Wolf Performing Arts Center (Wolf PAC) presents The Butterfly Project, at Beth David Reform Congregation on February 26, 2013 at 7:00 pm for members of the Congregation and Religious School students (sixth grade-Upper School) and the general public, free of charge. The performance brings to life poetry and artwork of children who passed through Terezin Concentration Camp during the Holocaust.

The centerpiece of The Butterfly Project is Wolf PAC’s own production of “I Never Saw Another Butterfly,” a one-act play by Celeste Raspanti, based on the book by the same name. Courtesy of a partnership with the Holocaust Awareness Museum and Education Center (HAMEC), audience members have the opportunity to engage in discussion with a Holocaust survivor following the performance.

This presentation of The Butterfly Project is part of a local tour, including engagements at schools, places of worship, and cultural centers throughout the Greater Philadelphia Area. The tour began at the National Museum of American Jewish History on Holocaust Remembrance Day, April 19, 2012, and will conclude at the Perelman Theater in the Kimmel Center on Holocaust Remembrance Day, April 7, 2013, as part of the Philadelphia International Festival for the Arts (PIFA) in Center City Philadelphia.

“The message needs to be told,” says Bobbi Wolf, Founder and Executive Director of Wolf PAC.  “I think of children from all walks of life and their day-to-day survival.  And always, the echo of ‘never forget.’”

Those who attend the performance will have the opportunity to create a paper butterfly to honor the memory of one of the 15,000 children who passed through Terezin Concentration Camp. The butterflies will be displayed in the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia during the company’s final performance in April 2013. At the end of the tour, these butterflies will be sent to the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Houston, TX where they will become part of an exhibit honoring the 1.5 million children who perished in the Holocaust.
