Let your house be open wide
- Pirke Avot 1.4
The goal of our Outreach program is to provide a welcoming hand to interfaith couples, Jews-by-Choice, individuals with multicultural backgrounds, and anyone considering embracing Judaism. We offer meaningful course study through the UAHC, taught by our Rabbi Emeritus Henry Cohen, called Introduction to Judaism. Rabbi Cohen has written a wonderful reference book, "What's Special about Judaism?" which is used for this course. We sponsor many diverse programs for Outreach, i.e. speakers, discussion groups, "hands on" and interactive activities.
Rabbi Cohen's Introduction to Judaism class, sponsored by the Union for Reform Judaism is intended both for intermarried couples and adult Jews looking for more meaning in their Judaism.
Beth David is committed to maintaining itself as a place where a non-Jewish spouse or partner can feel welcome and be part of the community. We would like parents and grandparents of children involved in interfaith relationships or marriages and anyone else affected by the myriad of issues created by this diversity to be able to discuss the issues and learn from each other.
Outreach is also "Inreach" reaching young adults, gays and lesbians, newly married couples, singles, and anyone who may feel disenfranchised from synagogue life. Outreach helps to keep this large segment of our community engaged and involved as participants at Beth David.
Special events hosted by the Outreach Committee will be posted on this page.
