Preschool Family Program

Beth David is committed to learning, celebrating Judaism, and community. We want our youngest members to feel just as much a part of the congregation as do our older children. Therefore, Beth David has created a series of events each year just for them. The objectives of this program are:

  • To make our very youngest Beth David congregants feel at home here long before they enter religious school.

  • To provide an opportunity for Beth David parents of very young children to meet each other in a fun, informal setting.

Who can participate?
We welcome all children from birth to age 5 and their parents who are members of Beth David. Older siblings and grandparents are also welcome to attend.

We welcome additional help on the Preschool Committee. If you'd like to help with a particular program or could work along with us throughout the year, let one of the Preschool Chairs know.

What types of programs are offered?
Tot Shabbat Services are held on selected Friday evenings. This service is much less structured than the regular Shabbat service and provides a format suited to a young child. Tot Shabbat is always followed by refreshments at an Oneg Shabbat. Please remember that children are welcome at all Beth David Shabbat services.

Sunday Morning Activities offer a 45-minute activity for preschoolers once a month. The theme of each program is generally tied into a neighboring holiday. The children are treated to some interactive storytelling, a snack, and participation in an art project. Coffee for the adults!

Religious School Tie-Ins give preschoolers and their families an opportunity to participate in religious school activities. For example. the Purim Carnival, the school Passover Seder, and Mitzvah Day will all contain activities also geared toward younger children.

What are people saying about the program?
". . . a good introduction to Judaism when the children are very young. It gives our children a chance to feel like they are going to Religious School just like their big sister does. As parents, we have enjoyed the chance to meet other Beth David families with preschool age children."
- Ilene and Mark Rosen, Beth David members since 2000

Great! How do we get started?
Our Preschool Program co-chairs will be sending flyers out in advance of each event. If you're interested in coming, please make sure you RSVP in a timely fashion so that we can plan accurately. If you have any questions in the meantime, contact Rabbi Egolf or Educational Director Susan Levey
